Ahn, Namsung   2010 Conference (Korea) - Progress Report    (A pre-conference planning meeting is schedule in Korea during the first week of March. Please find attached the list of the conference committee, the Conference Co-Chair (Host Organization) still needs to be named. ) Report

Andersen, David   VP Finance Report   (Reports for 2008 are in similar format as the past: 1. Revenue & Expense, 2008 Budget Comparison; 2. Revenue & Expense, 2008 & 2007 Comparison; 3. Revenue & Expense, 2008 by Cost Center; and 4. Balance Sheet, 2008 & 2007 Comparison. All reports are unaudited. A narrative summarizes the fiscal health of the Society.) Report

Andersen, Deborah   Report of VP Publications   (This is the winter VP Publications report divided into sections about recent publications, ongoing projects, items of interest, and policy issues. Section D: Discussion Topics in the Last Six Months contains issues that PC members should respond to.) Report

Dangerfield, Brian   Report of the Executive Editor, System Dynamics Review.   (Headings are: Vol 24 & 25; Accepted Backlog; Special Issue on Transportation; Statistics; Contribution to SDR budget.) Report

Eberlein, Robert   Conference Scholarship Committee Report   (We have 10 fee waiver and hotel scholarships for 2009. We have relaxed the restriction that recipients have an accepted paper. For 2009 only there is also a special K-12 registration fee scholarship.) Report

Eberlein, Robert   Conference Organization Guidelines   (New suggested guidelines for conference organization with a strong focus on program. These guidelines are the subject of motions 105 and 106.) Report

Eberlein, Robert   Report of the Vice President Electronic Presence   (We have moved our web server to a new provider. The web submission system now takes PhD Colloquium papers. The Wiki is running, but slowly. A new content management system has been installed to manage quickly changing pages. A new discussion forum is being created.) Report

Ford, Andrew   2009 Conference (Albuquerque) - Progress Report   (The best report on the 2009 conference is the announcement posted to the System Dynamics list-serve on January 5, 2009. This Email announcement has been reformatted somewhat to be easier to read.) Report

Ford, Andrew   Conference Program Committee   (Like previous teams, the 2009 team has been talking about quality of papers - how to encourage quality submissions and how to chose among the submissions to ensure quality. We believe the quality of some of the sessions will be improved by the discussant format to be introduced in 2009. (This idea is mentioned in the conference report). There have been a lot of good comments on quality (and the rejection rate) on the list-serve lately, and the 2009 team is listening. That said, there is nothing new that warrants a separate report from the Conference Program Committee. Andrew Ford January 15, 2009 )

Größler, Andreas   Report of VP Meetings for Winter PC meeting 2009   (2009 running smoothly, 2010 needs final decision on hotel/location (Roberta in Korea next month), 2011 default location Boston, 2012 many parties interested.) Report

Heffernan, Mark   Australasian Chapter Report   (Nothing exciting to report from Down Under. We are all on summer holidays. Geoff McDonnell continues to update the HPSig wiki) Link

Hovmand, Peter   Diversity Committee Report   (This report provides an overview of the System Dynamics Society demographics for 2008 and Diversity Committee. Total membership declined for the first time since 1998 from 1,152 members in 2007 to 1,087 in 2008. The decline was largest in the United States, among men, and members 50 and over. However, the number of women in the society continues increasing reaching 16% in 2008 while the number countries represented by members increased as well. Conference attendance also declined from 2007 to 2008, but appeared to have a larger proportion of women. Additionally, the Diversity Committee held a diversity forum and diversity workshop at the Athens Conference. One outcome from the diversity forum was a recommendation to have a gender issues thread at the conference, which has been proposed and accepted for the Albuquerque conference. ) Report

Lyneis, James   Nominating Committee Report   (The Nominating Committee is pleased to nominate the following slate of candidates for Officers and Policy Council members to take office January 1, 2010. President-Elect: David Lane; VP Meetings: Andreas Größler (re-appointment); VP At-Large: Joel Rahn (re-appointment); PC 1: Kim Warren; PC 2: Ignacio Martinez-Moyano; PC 3: Martin Schaffernicht; PC 4: Laura Black; See the attached report for further information.) Report

Lyneis, James   System Dynamics Society Outstanding Service Award proposal   (The proposal talks briefly about the history, frequency, the selection criteria, and what the recipient will receive. The proposal is submitted by committee members Jack Pugh, Bob Eberlein, Erling Moxnes, and Roberta Spencer. It also has the endorsement of President-Elect Rogelio Oliva, and Past President Jim Lyneis. The overall Awards Committee has reviewed this proposal; Chair Khalid Saeed has recommended that it be posted as a motion. We respectfully ask the Policy Council to consider this proposal and motion and look forward to receiving your input. We hope the System Dynamics Society Outstanding Service Award can be given at the 2009 Albuquerque Conference. ) Report

Morrison, J. Bradley   Minutes of the Winter 2009 Face-to-face Meeting   (Minutes of the Winter 2009 Face-to-face Meeting held at WPI on January 17, 2009. Respectfully submitted.) Report

Moxnes, Erling   Agenda and Schedule for 2009 Winter Policy Council Meeting   (For the 2009 Winter Policy Council Meeting we will have a combination of a face-to-face and electronic meetings. Please see the attachment for full details.) Report

Rouwette, Etiënne   Report on Conference Survey Athens, 2008   ( The response to the survey consisted of the following only: - paper format, answering the questions on the survey: 3 - electronic format, answering the questions on the survey: 4 - electronic format, free format: 2 - electronic format, suggestions on how to improve survey next year: 2 The number of responses to the survey seem to be too small to warrant further analysis. In my opinion, this material does not add much to what has been said in the conference debriefing meeting. The most important thing to take away from this is that we need a different format for the survey to ensure a higher response next year. The two suggestions on how to improve the survey (by Stefan Groesser and Tomas Flanagan) could help in that, and the main suggestion seems to be using an electronic format next year. )

Russel, Graham   Publisher's Report from Wiley-Blackwell   (Since there are no major changes, we won't be revisiting our Publisher's Report before the forthcoming Policy Council meeting. We will, however, be updating it in time for the annual spring meeting in Chichester with Brian and Roberta, and also for the summer Policy Council meeting. Warm New Year wishes on a proper English winter's day!)

Saeed, Khalid   Awards Committee Report   (The SDS Awards Committee was created in 2008 to oversee the Society awards process. Please find summary reports for the Forrester Award Committee, the Dana Meadows Award Committee, the Applications Award Committee and the new Community Service Award Committee. The committee has developed general guidelines for the Society awards, which have been posted on the Society Governance web site. ) Report

Schaffernicht, Martin   The Latin America Chapter Summary (January 2009)   (Update of essential facts from the Latin America Chapter) Report

Spencer, Roberta   2011 Conference (Boston) - Progress Report    (We are currently working with a number of hotels in the Boston area. Full proposals have not yet been received, but preliminary information will be available for the face-to-face meeting date. As information is received, it will be shared with the Policy Council. ) Report

Spencer, Roberta   2008 Conference (Athens) - Final Report   (The Athens 2008 conference was the lowest attended conference since 2002 with 386 registrants and 52 guests. The overall unaudited loss for the 2009 conference was just over $55,000 (this number will change somewhat after the annual review by our CPA). ) Report

Spencer, Roberta   Home Office Summary -- Executive Director's Report   (Financially, 2008 was a very hard year. Investment and conference income was down substantially; membership and sponsorship income was slightly down. But, we had the best year ever for beer game sales. We had one new product this year: the "experienced deck" for the beer game. 2009 membership renewals are underway. Planning for the Albuquerque conference is progressing on schedule. ) Report
