Abstract for: When Diesel Becomes a Social Problem: A Participatory System Dynamics Generator for Community Fuel Security in Aotearoa New Zealand
presents a participatory System Dynamics (SD) generator that enables non-expert community members to construct, validate, and simulate resource crisis models through natural language conversation within a single session of sixty to ninety minutes. The system operationalises the Community Kinetic Intelligent Complex Adaptive Systems (CKICAS) theoretical framework, extending Hovmand's (2014) community-based system dynamics (CBSD) protocol to the acute crisis context. Internal validation of the eight-stock model against live crisis parameters generates a counterintuitive structural prediction: Trust, not diesel, is the binding constraint on community resilience. The model's panarchy switching function predicts that when Trust falls below its critical threshold, energy conservation cascades into food security failure within ten simulation days regardless of diesel stock level.
