Abstract for: From Insight to Infrastructure: Translating Community-Based System Dynamics into Implementation Pathways for Maternal Health Equity

This work in progress applies Community-Based System Dynamics (CBSD) to co-develop a shared mental model of maternal health and translate it into an implementation framework aligned with AIM-CCI. By linking feedback loops across trust, clinical capacity, and care coordination to community care bundles, this work advances a systems-informed approach to improving maternal health equity. We conducted Community-Based System Dynamics (CBSD) workshops with diverse stakeholders to co-create causal loop diagrams (CLDs) of maternal health system drivers. These were synthesized into a unified model identifying key feedback loops. We then mapped leverage points to AIM-CCI community care bundles, translating system insights into an implementation framework integrating workflows, care coordination, and data infrastructure. CBSD workshops produced a unified causal loop diagram identifying three interconnected domains—relational, operational, and coordination—governed by key feedback loops (R1–R5, B1). Analysis revealed how trust, clinical capacity, and referral systems dynamically shape outcomes. A crosswalk linking leverage points to AIM-CCI community care bundles was developed, establishing a pathway from system insight to implementation. These findings demonstrate that maternal health outcomes are driven by interacting feedback structures rather than isolated factors. Translating CLDs into implementation frameworks bridges a critical gap between systems insight and practice. This work suggests that aligning interventions to feedback dynamics can improve effectiveness and sustainability, while advancing community-informed, equity-centered system redesign in maternal health.
