Abstract for: Balancing Sustainability and Operational Resilience: A Multi-Method Digital Twin Framework for Production Systems
Paper attempts to explore a hybrid approach using system dynamics methodology along with discrete-event simulation to create a digital twin for warehouse operations. A framework is proposed which is at exploration stage where viability of operations to manage sustainability, resilience and agility is discussed. Robust policies for Emission-based Production and Inventory Control System (EPICS) at the strategic level (on a monthly basis) are identified for sustainability purposes. These policies set daily operational targets that are compared with a virtual replica of the real production line. If targets aren’t met, the production line may be reconfigured, leading to the identification of possible interventions from the digital shadow. The study is still in its initial stage, requiring implementation and experimentation of the proposed framework. The available results from the exploratory modelling can serve as a starting point for extending the framework. We’re interested in discussing the framework and validation of the strategic module. A key question is how to incorporate feedback from digital shadows into real-world scenarios to create a complete digital twin. We also want to train an agent using a learning algorithm to automate decisions in creating a viable supply chain production and inventory system. Grammarly, Gemini
