Abstract for: Enabling sustainability transitions through sequential capability roadmaps
This research proposes a structured roadmap built around foundational, enabling, and implementation capabilities. The proposed framework offers a scalable model that supports real-world interventions like community education on recycling and conservation. This research draws on capability trap and capability frontier theory to develop a sequential capability roadmap to support sustainability transitions. It uses systems thinking to develop causal loop diagrams supporting the major insights. The proposed framework not only captures the dynamic evolution of capabilities but also provides actionable pathways that stakeholders can adapt to diverse sustainability contexts. The proposed framework provides complementary conceptual and operational tools for navigating complexity through capability sequencing, feedback management, and dynamic experimentation. By operationalizing management theory within sustainability processes, this research aims to deliver a practical tool to formalize local progress toward sustainability goals.
