Abstract for: Urban Pulse: Environmental Comfort Challenges Game

This interactive workshop introduces “Urban Pulse: Environmental Comfort Challenges," a System Dynamics (SD) game designed to illustrate leverage points in urban environmental management through experiential learning. Participants will engage in decision-making scenarios that compare behavioral interventions with infrastructure-based approaches across three interconnected subsystems: Spatial Context, Human-Social Dynamics, and Air Quality-Soundscape. The game was developed based on the results of a graph-theoretic metrics analysis applied to a comprehensive causal loop diagram (CLD) representing urban environmental comfort (UEC) dynamics. Workshop attendees will interact with the game mechanics, analyze and discuss intervention strategies derived from the CLD analysis, support the validation of structural and behavioral insights generated through SD modeling, and explore applications for stakeholder engagement in participatory urban planning processes. The workshop is suitable for researchers, practitioners, and educators interested in serious games, behavioral change, participatory modeling, and urban environmental systems.
