Abstract for: Aprendiendo del pasado: the CHECO model
In the early 1970s, soon after his election to the Presidency of Chile, Salvador Allende’s government contacted Stafford Beer to bring his ideas of cybernetics to the aid of managing the Chilean economy. Here we want to address the details of the DYNAMO model, Chilean Economy or CHECO. •Discovering and obtaining more information on the CHECO project •Investigating early attempts to use system dynamics modeling tools to model national economies •Converting the DYNAMO code to modern system dynamics software formats We have discovered documents and the original DYNAMO model. We have successfully converted it to Studio. There is still much investigation to be done including major improvements to the model. This is SD archaeology. We believe that we have found the first public instance of using SD for macroeconomic modeling. The original documents are on paper stored in Liverpool England. The model has many construction issues but we are working on improvements.
