Abstract for: Evaluating the Added Value of Adolescent Cervical Cancer Education within HPV Vaccination and Screening Programs in Kenya.
Building on a previous systems dynamics model (https://rdcu.be/e7pd9), this work integrates adolescent cervical cancer education as an additional intervention component in cervical cancer control in Kenya. Health education's cost-benefit, assessed through averted DALYs, reveals a key leverage point A participative system dynamics approach was used to develop a causal loop diagram that was integrated into a pre-existing model on life course on HPV Vaccination and Screening programs in Kenya1. The effects of health education were conceptualized as a behavioral intervention designed to influence their awareness and attitudes. Averted DALYs quantified the observed effect. The effectiveness of educational initiatives was aggregated from interventions implemented in schools 2 3. The ripple effect of adolescents sharing the information with their peers and guardians influences attitude towards catch-up vaccine, screening, and early health-seeking behavior. Subsequently, the uptake of these interventions among adolescents and their communities vary in vaccinated and screened compartments The synergic effect of integrating health education among adolescents, primary vaccination, catch-up vaccination, and screening produced the greatest reduction in cervical cancer incidence and DALYs over the 50-year simulation period. The effect will be quantified through DALYs averted. Initial findings suggest that integrating structured school-based cervical cancer education within national HPV prevention strategies may enhance population-level impact and improve cost-effectiveness in Kenya In long-term simulations, education often produces compounding behavioral effects, making it a highly cost-effective intervention.
