Abstract for: System Dynamics A Whole World Perspective Or A Whole World Of Perspectives
When preparing to develop a model various tools are used to develop a shared understanding. Why a shared understanding? System Dynamics modelling in particular usually requires collaboration between system dynamics modelling experts and domain experts. Due to the nature of system dynamics modelling, which allows for the integration of multiple domains into one model, the domain specialist with system dynamics modelling capability will still need to interact with domain specialists for other areas. The ecologist skilled in system dynamics will need for example to interact with the engineers skilled in energy generation to model the impact of CO2 resulting from coal fired power stations and medical professionals to understand the impact of CO2 emissions on humans. The economist needs to talk to the technocrats and human behaviour specialists. For the purpose of the workshop, we will focus on the first 4 steps from the system dynamics modelling process. In addition, we will make many assumptions and calculations that could benefit from the input of a variety of domain specialists. If there are any in the audience, please feel free to add your expertise and help us improve the case study.
