Abstract for: Do the theories of systems thinking apply in practice to the development of and alignment of instructional networks?
System thinking in schools is providing special schools in particular with a way to map their resources to the needs of their students and staff. It is pivotal for schools facing deficit budgets that need to ensure that they are factoring all of the critical pathways that are part of running a complex organisation. The mapping of an organisation is considered critical We used semi structure interviews, across all tiers of the instructional network, from the CEO, Heads, Governors, Trustees, Governance professionals, Director of therapies. Due to the homogenous nature of these roles in all instructional private or state schools in the UK Multi Academy Trust System. The results demonstrated the need for formation, adjustment and trust as the key nuances for completely applying systems thinking. this lead to better communication increased performance as it forced leaders to draw learning opportunities from the stakeholders. The organisation were also able to adopt a way of working that engages all stakeholders instead of taking a top down approach. Learning centred companies that have made significant strides in improving their systems dynamics mapping have been able to develop their business results and develop their internal learning capabilities, adapting their infrastructure accordingly.
