Abstract for: The KNOWING Impact Interaction Model Framework – building upon the results of domain models for climate resilient pathways

The KNOWING project aims for a more holistic understanding of the complex interdependency between climate change mitigation and adaptation measures and their responses, and it develops pathways exploiting synergies and minimising trade-offs between different measures. One of the central concepts of the modelling approach is the cross-calibration of the developed SD model against the results of 12 mature domain models (climate models, impact assessment models and sector models), applied for four different European regions, representing different climate impact contexts (i.e., focus on specific hazards and related impacts). This WIP contribution describes the structured calibration framework proposed in KNOWING that systematically aligns SD model outputs with trusted reference baselines derived from the domain models (DM). Key model variables and calibration parameters are identified at SD sub-model (domain) level. Also, an outlook on the application of the calibrated model is given, related to pathway analysis (backcasting) and transferability of the results to other regions.
