Abstract for: Reflections on Mutual Learning between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and a White System Dynamicist
This practitioner application explores the ongoing processes of two way learning in applying community based system dynamics through multiple projects. Focused primarily on Victoria's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, it explores how community based system dynamics is applied to address food system challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples due to the ongoing impacts of colonisation. It highlights the process of building mutual trust and building system dynamics capacity within communities while simultaneously building researcher capacity in Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing. The application describes the importance of respectful collaboration, two-way learning, challenging power structures, Indigenous leadership, and the ongoing commitment to deepen relationships and understanding between researchers and communities, offering insights into meaningful partnerships in Indigenous health.
