Abstract for: Tech Burden and Why Well-Intentioned Systems Become Unbearable
This ongoing project explores the micro behavioral dynamics contributing to data collection bloat within Electronic Health Records (EHRs), linking these individual-level dynamics to broader phenomena like administrative burden, clinician burnout and turnover, and potential impacts on patient care. By adopting a qualitative system dynamics approach, we plan to illuminate the feedback mechanisms and structural complexities that sustain this issue in healthcare settings. Through our analysis, we anticipate uncovering actionable insights and strategies that hold the potential to significantly reform policy and practice, thereby alleviating the unintended consequences of EHR data bloat and enhancing healthcare delivery.
