Abstract for: A System Dynamics Model for the Development of Innovation Districts

This work shows an SD model to describe the process of developing an Innovation District. The authors based the model on indicators of the four knowledge-based urban development, KBUD: Urban, Economic, Social and Governance (Yigitcanlar, Adu-McVie, & Erol, 2020). The study associates the role of the Triple Helix actors, Government, Industry, and Academia (Etzkowitz & Leydesdorff, 2000) with the activation of those indicators along the different phases of evolution and development of an industrial district: inception, launching, growth, and maturity (Pique, Miralles, Teixeira, Gaspar, & Filho, 2019). We conduct the validation of the results using two real cases: @22 Barcelona and Porto Digital districts.
