Abstract for: Mobility disadvantaged households in Austria, transitions to low-carbon mobility and transport-related social inclusion
This research addresses the issue of transport disadvantaged households in Austria amidst the government's ambitious goal to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality in the transport sector by 2040. With rising energy costs, reliance on motorized individual transport becomes increasingly burdensome for financially vulnerable groups, particularly in regions lacking adequate public transportation infrastructure. Mobility poverty, defined by challenges in meeting daily needs due to limited transportation options, imposes significant constraints on personal mobility and access to employment opportunities. Despite its critical societal implications, Austria's data on mobility poverty remains inadequate, necessitating a comprehensive examination of affected demographics and the development of targeted interventions. This study aims to bridge this gap through literature review, data collection, and system dynamics modeling to assess the impact of climate policies on transport disadvantaged households over time. By identifying effective strategies for reducing mobility poverty and promoting socially just mobility.
