Abstract for: Applying the systems thinking and modelling toolbox to industrial symbiosis

Industrial symbiosis is focused on the use of waste and by-product streams between actors to improve resource efficiency in an industrial cluster. This presentation discusses application of system dynamics and system thinking to assessment of industrial symbiosis cases in Sweden. In these cases, waste heat and CO2 from industry are utilised in greenhouses for growing food. The work addresses some of the challenges in approaching the problem considering the broader system perspective as well as the dynamic nature of real world greenhouse operation.
