Abstract for: Group Model Building on Dynamic Mechanisms of Cancer Patients’ Outmigration in South Korea
Cancer patients' outmigration presents a significant challenge to the South Korean healthcare system. Policy efforts have failed to mitigate outmigration, reflecting the complex dynamics of the health system. We employed a Group Model Building (GMB) approach involving medical oncologists and surgeons in order to explain the complex mechanism of outmigration. These sessions revealed key feedback loops driving outmigration, such as patient reassurance and trust, provider burnout, and resource allocation. This is a pioneering application of GMB in South Korea, which will serve as a foundation for understanding the dynamic nature of health system. We further aim to develop this work by engaging heterogeneous stakeholders and performing quantitative simulations.
