Abstract for: Aspects of sustainability and resilience of food supply capabilities in Norwegian and Swedish agriculture and food systems

The basic for sustainable agriculture in Scandinavia were mapped and substantiated using systems analysis methods. We have critically evaluated the evidence for the new Nordic Nutrition Recommendations (NNR 2023), and the basis for the recommendations. These have been found to have serious flaws making the whole basis for the recommendations very weak. 5.8% of the areas on the agricultural areas are suitable for human food crops. To compensate, the basic component of domestic food production are animals that eat grass and fodder crops humans cannot eat, and then Scandinavians eat dairy products and meat. A critical review of the health effect of eating animal-source food, show that the health benefits are far larger than the drawbacks. The negative effects being brought forward are exaggerated in a way that does not have any support in medical or nutritional research. The proposals for new nutrition recommendations would imply that most animals would be removed from Scandinavian farm systems. It can be shown that this will have disastrous effects on the domestic food supply in Scandinavian The self-sufficiency would in such a scenario sink from about 50% now to less that 15% in Norway and Sweden.
