Abstract for: System Dynamics Modelling of Technical Innovation Systems: The Case of Wind Turbines in Germany
Wind energy onshore is a central component in the transition towards a renewable energy sys-tem. In Germany, wind turbines have experienced an intensive growth since the 1980s, making them a concrete example for a Technological Innovation System (TIS). The aim of our study is to present the empirical case of a Technological Innovation System modelled by System Dynamics, which maps the historic development of wind energy expansion in Germany in the phases of ini-tiazation and prosperity until 2015. For this purpose, we develop a dynamical hypothesis model that explains the historical development of the wind energy onshore system by causal loops and give an outlook on multi-causal relations that may explain the stagnation of the system in the last seven years.
