Abstract for: System Dynamic models for the design of national decarbonization pathways: a case study of Catalonia
This study presents the outcomes of implementing the pymedeas2 Integrated Assessment Model into Catalonia's context. Within this research, we delineate the novel features incorporated into the forthcoming release of pymedeas (pymedeas2), alongside showcasing the results derived from its application within the Catalonia context. Subsequently, following the model's integration into the regional framework, we have developed the Net Zero Pathway (NZP) scenario, a thoughtfully constructed decarbonization pathway aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The findings of this study shed light on the intricate interplay among policy interventions, economic dynamics, and environmental sustainability, underscoring the necessity for integrated approaches to effectively address complex challenges. Furthermore, this research elucidates the pivotal role of regional initiatives in propelling global sustainability agendas, emphasizing the potential for locally-driven catalytic actions to precipitate transformative change on a broader scale.
