Abstract for: Well-being Oriented Policy Making: Synergies between the Capability Approach and System Dynamics
Policy makers are increasingly focusing on well-being. However, the development and preliminary assessment of well-being science based policies are not widespread. The Capability Approach (CA) offers a theoretical base for understanding the well-being and designing policies aimed at its improvement. Yet, there is limited research within the CA domain on the temporal development of well-being due to complex interactions among CA's elements. To address these issues, we suggest an approach that merges CA with the System Dynamics (SD) method. While SD is commonly used to examine well-being issues, utilizing well-being frameworks like the CA is rare. We explore both theoretical and practical benefits of integrating the CA and SD. Moreover, we present a brief example and outline a procedure to aid the application of this integrated approach in developing policies focused on well-being.
