Abstract for: Delayed discharges among patients with learning disabilities

This is a 3-month internship project focusing on reducing delayed discharges in one health board. A small system dynamics model was developed in collaboration with the stakeholders to highlight insights already established in system dynamics of complex care systems - focus on hospital throughput and social care capacity. The project evolved from a focus on bed numbers to a more nuanced conversation about the factors driving delayed discharges - time to find placement in the community. The presentation will provide an overview of the modelling process and how the insights were received by stakeholders.
