Abstract for: Speeding up transition towards sustainable transport systems – the desperate search for relevant leverage points.

Current efforts to support a transition towards sustainable transport systems are far from enough to meet future and present climate challenges. At present, more obvious and rather easy to implement measures are targeted, which have, unfortunately, a limited potential for transformative change. Existing sustainability policies such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or the European Green Deal, are or have not been enough to transform our societies. The aim of this study is to investigate how a transport system, including personal mobility and freight but also the necessary transport infrastructure, of a low density region must be modelled to be able to identify potential leverage points to support a transition towards a sustainable transport system.
