Abstract for: Learning with Loops that Matter
Loops that Matter (LTM) identifies and measures the feedback loops responsible for model behavior and is built into Stella. In this workshop we will show how LTM can be used to help understand important principles of systems through visualization and analysis of feedback loops. This will include the automated generation and animation of causal loop diagrams that highlight important model structure driving behavior. The techniques will be demonstrated in the context of a number of models in order to show that actual and expected loop dominance are not always the same. There are no prerequisites for this workshop. Participants will be provided with the software and models used in the discussion and efforts will be made to minimize the mechanical requirements needed to learn. Participants should bring their own Windows or Macintosh computers. A link for installing the software will be available on the conference website as well as during the workshop.
