Abstract for: Effects of human intervention in the Brazilian Amazon

The Amazon is a region of vital importance for humanity. However, today it is in crisis. Countless fires caused with the purpose of deforesting for the creation of grazing areas have endangered the entire region, threatening not only the life and traditions of the native communities of the area, but also wildlife and the ecosystem in general. In the Brazilian Amazon alone there are hundreds of wildfires and thousands of hectares of lost forest. These decisions have been made for economic purposes, but what effects will they have in the long term? Through system dynamics and systems thinking, we have developed a simulator that mimics the dynamics of such a complex system, with the sole objective of exploring these decisions, and finding paths that lead to sustainability.
