Abstract for: Guidance on the appropriation of SD models in decision making on STI in the agricultural sector of Santander (Colombia)

System Dynamics - SD models often cannot be used in contexts different from those for which they were generated, because a process of adjustment, transfer or appropriation is required whose difficulty may vary depending, among other aspects, on the expertise of the SD practitioner, and on the depth of the differences between the generating and receiving context of the model. Improving the effectiveness of transferring SD models to other contexts would have a positive impact on: the speed of the transfer or appropriation process; the quantity, quality and relevance of the models used; and even the reduction of difficulties in implementing the models in the receiving context. The above general problem is presented in the case of the transfer or appropriation of SD simulation models oriented to decision making on STI in the agricultural sector. This problem is reviewed in the case of the agricultural sector of Santander (Colombia). Based on the literature review and the experience of the authors, difficulties, or problems of such transfer to the Santander context are pointed out. For each of these difficulties, a solution is proposed, which then takes the form of an orientation or guideline. Finally, potential positive impacts of the use of these guidelines are projected for the case of decision making on STI in the agricultural sector of Santander.
