Abstract for: Modeling the Impact of Green Stormwater Infrastructure on Improving Water Quality in Urban Streams
This work in progress presents a systems approach to investigate the potential of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) to improve the water quality in urban streams. Relationships among the variables in a watershed that impact in-stream water quality are developed. The system dynamics model is created using data for characteristic parameters from a rapidly urbanizing area in the southeast United States. A preliminary stock and flow diagram has been developed to show the relationships. As the model is further enhanced, policies and possible scenarios that reflect GSI investment will be tested to show the impact of GSI on improving pollution concentrations, and hence water quality, in urban streams.
