Abstract for: Lung Cancer Epidemiology-The advantages of microsimulation in determining rate dynamics in disease epidemiology.
Many of the flow rates in disease epidemiology models are driven by highly discrete elements that require specific simulation to accurately capture the interacting dynamics. Demographic details of the underlying population trends along with incidence risk across the same dimensions allow for accurate capture of rate trends. Factors such as sex, age, race and Hispanic origin are key factors. Patient progression and mortality rates are driven by unique disease related factors such as severity at diagnosis, therapy by clinical state, and unique genetic mutations or disease expression. An accurate representation of these stocks and flows is nearly impossible to achieve without microsimulation.
