Abstract for: Math to Meaning
System dynamics allows us to explore stories into simulations, however, this work explores the value of system dynamics to abstract mathematical functions into useful stories or conceptual models. The Simple Harmonic Oscillator is used as a starting point and expanded into a stock and flow structure. Thereafter the structure is abstracted into a Causal Loop Diagram. A generalised Causal Loop Diagram is then abstracted as a potential new system archetype: Harmonic Archetype. Thereafter the archetype is successfully tested into an ecological (predator-prey) application. The work further shows how the generic archetype relates to transdisciplinary forms of harmonic behaviour and how system dynamics can help us translate valuable mathematical equations to a more general audience.
