Abstract for: Systems Thinking for Public Policy: A Case Study in Brazil
The complex challenges we face in the world require a systems approach to find lasting, sustainable solutions that do not lead to unintended effects. However, when you consider that policymakers are unlikely to become modelers, integrating System Dynamics into public policy becomes a difficult problem. Most of their staff are also unlikely to become modelers and yet need to think and converse in systems. Karim Chichakly shares his approach of using Systems Thinking in Brazil, at the highest level of the Federal Government. He shares his journey, including tips about what worked and many real examples from problems faced by the Brazilian government.
