Abstract for: Roundtable on Obesity Solutions Systems Mapping of Solutions
This paper summarizes the results from conducting a series of group model building workshops for the National Academy of Medicine’s Roundtable on Obesity Solutions to support the strategic planning process for 2020. There were two main objectives: (1) build a common language in systems for members of the Roundtable on Obesity Solutions, and (2) identify, prioritize and concisely state interventions that are judged by the members to be key drivers for addressing obesity trends. A total of three sets of group model building sessions were conducted over a 6-month period. These included an initial 1-day in person session in January followed by a 90-minute webinar in March, five 90-minute online sessions in June, and a final presentation and reflection in July 2020. Results from the systems mapping and prioritization of solutions included a synthesized and revised system map of obesity prevalence, obesity solutions from a systematic review in 2019 mapped into the system map, and a set of prioritized solutions along with a qualitative analysis of potential leverage points with implications for implementation. The paper concludes with a discussion of the strengths and limitations along with directions for future research.
