Abstract for: A System Thinking Assessment Scale for Storybooks (STASS)

Systems thinking has a wide range of application in education. Although it can be adapted in almost every lesson plan existing in the curriculum, transfer of basic Systems Thinking concepts to students especially in K-4 level needs easily applicable and valid tools. In our practice, the storybooks are frequently used for this purpose. On the other hand, it is also observed that appropriate storybooks allowing the proper use of Systems Thinking tools and emphasizing the system concept are insufficient in number and quality. With the observation of this need, a work group is formed to write or translate storybooks that can be used for Systems Thinking educations. The aim of the current study conducted by the work group is to develop a System Thinking Assessment Scale for Storybooks (STASS) that can be used to assess the suitability of a story to Systems Thinking implementation. The scale is currently being discussed and updated. In the following months reliability and validity studies will be done.
