Abstract for: Sector coupling in the transition to renewable energies: Where do households stand?

Sector coupling seems to gain popularity in the literature of energy systems and industrial networks. This article first reviews some of the sector coupling definitions. Then, it continues with a discussion on the impact of the household sector on its primary connected sectors – such as transportation, energy, and environment – in the transition to renewable energy. The author argues how the evolving residential sector and its endeavors to become energy self-sufficient may challenge electricity supply security.
