Abstract for: Organizational Learning from Production Control Data: unraveling tacit knowledge
Construction Industry has been using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Lean Production to acquire better performance in productivity. However, the BIM and Lean integration at the construction site is challenging to accomplish. Traditional methods to capturing and storing knowledge have also struggled to elicit the practitioners' tacit knowledge in projects managed by small control cycles and interconnected planning and control concepts, as the Last Planner System (LPS) based on Lean Production philosophy. Therefore, this research aims to this research aims to elicit the tacit knowledge and mental models of practitioners leveraging the understanding and exploration of logic and causal relationship between its constructs. Thus, control data from 26 finished construction sites, from 2013 until 2019, of a construction company in the south of Brazil is used. Qualitative causal loop diagrams model in VensimĀ® are the current state of the research. Also, an example of a production control practice is presented. The expected contributions are: (a) a method of eliciting production control learning process to assess the applicability by its practitioners; (b) a conceptual model for organizational learning triggered by production control data in construction.
