Abstract for: Exploring the Intersection of Incarceration and Health

The project team shares their experience with a ReThink Health convening of 30 government and organizational stakeholders in convening of government and organizational stakeholders in Minnesota as part of a report project initiated by the Minnesota Department of Health. The goal was to explore the the impact that incarceration has on health. A two day group modeling effort culminated in a system map of the forces conspiring to erode health. The report, prepared by ReThink Health, concluded that incarceration can cause lifelong health impacts, that it can lead to intergenerational health impacts, and that significant levels of incarceration can impact community health. This session will explore the process, share the resulting map, and share the hypothesized leverage points and interventions.
