Abstract for: Shining a Light on Norwegian Opioid Overdoses

Norway is one of the leaders in deaths due to opioid overdose per capita in Europe. While there are efforts currently underway to reduce the amount of deaths, they are insufficient in their current form. In order to combat this problem, opioid overdoses, and the opioid use that causes them, need to be viewed differently. This perspective change centers around two main points, drug use and overdose deaths need to be viewed as part of a bigger system with pressure points for intervention, and dealt with as a matter of health and wellbeing. These two position shifts and their interplay drive our model and will help reduce the amount of overdose deaths.
