Abstract for: The impact of sustainable buildings in electricity demand in Colombia

Colombia is facing a transition towards a more efficient and sustainable energy mix. In this process, several targets related to energy efficiency and sustainable buildings have been established. However, it is not clear if such targets would be met in the near future, and how fast it could happen. We developed a system dynamics model to evaluate different scenarios of diffusion of sustainable construction and energy efficiency in Colombia. We found that the maximum energy savings potential is around 12% in the biggest cities, but it could decrease below 8% if the country does not take action to avoid rebound effects.
