Abstract for: Volunteer Technicians at Den Akedemiske Kvartertet

A significant cultural hub in Bergen, Den Akedemiske Kvartertet (‘Kvarteret’ or ‘DAK’), runs a wide variety of events throughout the year. These can consist of anything from debates, concerts, theatre performances and silent discos. Almost all of these events require technical support in the form of light and sound engineers. The issue facing Kvarteret and its volunteer governing group, is that volunteer numbers are dropping. The simplest formulation of the problem is that after years of decline, there are now too few volunteers and the strain is beginning to show on those that remain.
