Abstract for: Remote norther electricity markets - Electricity in the dynamics of a mixed economy

This research reviews electricity market in remote norther communities and the dynamics of the interactions between a formal and informal economy. I the remote Arctic, electricity takes a substantial role in terms of human security, rather than in temperate areas where electricity is more a matter of entertainment and productivity (Allen, et al., 2016). Electricity is the backbone for modern, western economies. In the Arctic a mixed economy of traditional subsistence activities and monetary economy can be found. The results of this research can help to understand the coexistence of both economies. This will be needed for further studies on how both systems can coexist and strengthen the overall economy to lower poverty and unemployment in the Arctic (Koivurova, et al., 2008; Coates & Poelzer, 2014).
