Abstract for: Sustainability in Universities: A framework for monitoring the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030
A framework for monitoring implementation of sustainability initiatives in higher education institutions (HEIs) is proposed. This framework serves as a foundation for developing a dynamic sustainability balanced scorecard (DSBSC) model specifically designed for HEIs, that is, the Higher Education Dynamic Sustainability Balanced Scorecard Model (HEDSBSCM). After an extensive literature survey, the framework is proposed to address the limitations of current approaches. A causal-loop diagram is presented, which not only brings out the interactions between the dimensions of a balanced scorecard (BSC) but also integrates the key performance indicators (KPIs) of HEIs, that is, teaching, research, outreach and campus operations. The actual benefits of the HEDSBSCM designed will be assessed in Phase 2 of this project.
