Abstract for:The Long and Winding Road: Sub-National Policy Solutions in the Drive to Sustainable Mobility

Road transport is continually undergoing transformations. One such transformation is technology innovation with regards to propulsion. Electric Vehicles (EVs) currently form the best solution to the transport pollution problem. Previous research has been largely focused on the global level effect and we lack the knowledge of the impact of responses at sub-national level. Current state-of-the-art system dynamics models like The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) Institute for Energy and Transport Powertrain Technology Market Agent Model (PTTMAM) fail to account for the regional dimension. This paper will approach the problem from a dynamic perspective and investigate the effectiveness of various sub-national policies aimed at promoting EV uptake. The resulting conceptual framework and toolkit aims to aid various stakeholders in preparing for the low carbon future.
