Abstract for:Mapping Community Disaster Resilience: The MOBILISE Approach to understanding and measuring community disaster resilience in diverse stakeholder groups

The paper applies the Community Based System Dynamics method of engaging community members in conversations about their resilience to hazards, in this case, flooding. It helps the community build simple simulation models and games to understand the impact of regular flooding in a community in the North West of Pakistan and how the community can self-identify measures to better prepare for and mitigate those impacts. The community found the method useful for understanding the perspective of local government, scientists and disaster management professionals with respect to impacts from climate change, local resource use issues and rapid urbanization nearby. The process helped develop new tools and methods that could be applied in other communities and settings to understand community disaster resilience capacities.
