Abstract for:Geothermal resource dynamics and implications for energy system development

In recent years overall geothermal resource utilization has been enhancing significantly. Geothermal power production grew by 16% between 2010 and 2015. Unlike other renewable resources, geothermal ones can be (almost) depleted temporarily, if they are utilized excessively beyond their regeneration rate for electricity production. Some studies modelled and investigated geothermal resource dynamics for individual reservoirs or plants but did not investigate the effect of geothermal resource dynamics on overall energy system developments. Hence the model introduced in this paper captures the dynamics of geothermal resources occurring during its utilization for electricity production on a national system’s level, incorporating an economic structure.
