Abstract for:Hosting the Olympics: Opportunity or Catastrophe? Introduction

Cities are attracted to hosting the Olympics to attain honor, increased tourist revenue, and future revenues from new Olympic structures. However, hosting the Olympics has become so expensive that significantly fewer cities volunteer to take on the responsibility. Using STELLA, this project attempts to develop a prototypical framework that conceptualizes the project management dynamics of the Olympic preparation process and understand why overspending might occur.
