Abstract for:Presenting interactive causal-loop diagrams in Kumu: Lessons from a concussion recovery model
Causal-loop diagrams (CLDs) are useful for describing relationships and feedback structure in complex systems, but they can easily seem like “spaghetti” to anyone not involved in their creation. Two-dimensional images also provide limited room for overlays of supporting information. New web-based tools enable modelers to design compelling interactive walkthroughs of complex models and embed extensive element- and connection-specific information. This presentation will showcase such a walkthrough of a CLD of concussion pathophysiology and recovery developed as part of the Brain Trauma Evidence-Based Consortium, supported by the Brain Trauma Foundation and the Department of Defense. The modelers will also share insights about constructing a CLD walkthrough using Kumu, a web-based diagramming platform.
