Abstract for: A Learning Science-based Protocol for Evaluation of a Sustainability-based Learning Environment

Recently we developed a proposal for the implementation and field evaluation of a Simulation-Based Learning Environment (SBLE) in support of coastal protection planning. The project will adapt an existing classroom-based computer simulation [2] for use by local managers. It supports the design of a facilitated workshop activity where the lessons of the simulation are applied to the needs of each local community. In this poster/paper we describe the context of the research, with particular interest in the learning science techniques to elicit the effects of the simulation on the perspectives of the participants, as well as identifying the factors that are important to public managers that may not be present in a classroom exercise.
