In the US there is currently enormous attention being paid to preparation for college at the high school level, and alignment of the elementary and secondary curricula and achievement tests with the expectations and admissions tests at the college level. The issue of alignment is the subject of some important recommendations of the September 2006 final report of US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings' Commission on the Future of Higher Education. This is a great opportunity to introduce educators concerned with the planning and funding of education to systems approaches and we would have an opportunity to pioneer PK-20+ as an operational concept.
