Abstract for:Improving Qualitative Social Scientists’ Confidence in System Dynamics Case Studies

This paper examined the need to attract a wider social scientist audience to the field of system dynamics by investigating the unintentional barriers to acceptance in system dynamics articles. These barriers may deter qualitative social scientists from the field. Barriers include the diversified meaning of the word “qualitative” when used in system dynamics articles and the simplification of reporting qualitative research processes such as sampling and coding alongside cultural and trust issues. The trade-off between simplification of reporting qualitative research procedures and qualitative social scientists’ confidence in simulation results is suggested as an area for potential improvement.
