Abstract for: Integrating Energy Storage into the German Electricity Market

The development of the German electricity market is a highly complex and dynamic process. This transition from conventional energy sources towards a renewable and sustainable electricity generation leads to a volatile production that influences the price, can lead to grid overload and affects the security of supply. Energy storage technologies may represent a solution. Overproduction of electricity can be stored and balance shortages and thus stabilize prices. However, the development is uncertain since Germany has limited experience with energy storage due to low efficiencies and the lack of installed storage capacities. Within this research a system dynamics model for scenario analysis is developed.
